Hi friends, In this post, I want to give a short notes on Thycaud Ayya– one of the famous renaissance leaders of Kerala.

Thycaud Ayya Guru (1814-1909)

  • Birth place- Nakalapuram(Tamil Nadu)
  • Born in- 1814
  • Father- Muthukumaran
  • Mother – Rukmini Ammal
  • Spouse – Kamalammal
  • Original name- Subbarayan
  • Also known as Sivaraja Yogi
  • People called him respectfully as – Superintendent Ayya
  • Also known as ‘ Hadayogopadeshta’
  • The yoga guru of Thycaud Ayya – Sachidananda Swamikal
  • At the age of 12, received Spiritual enlightenment from;
    • Sachidananda Maharaj
    • Shri Chitti Pradeshi

  • Brahmothara kandam
  • Ramayanan Balakandam
  • Pazhani Vaibhavam
  • Thiruvaroor Murukan
  • Ente Kashiyatra(Travelogue)

  • Started ‘Panthibhojanam’
    • A social union in which people of different caste dine together without the barriers of religion
  • Sree Chithira Thirunal consecrated the of Siva Temple at the Samadhi of Ayya guru at Thycaudu
  • He is considered as the ‘Great Guru of Guru’
  • He was the first reformer who declared ‘one caste, one religion and one God ‘ for man. It was later propagated by Sree Narayana Guru
  • He founded ‘ Shaiva Praksha Sabha ‘ of Chalai, Thiruvananthapuram
  • He is known as the first social reformer of Kerala
  • He delivered his dicourses regularly at Ashta Pradhan Sabha in Chennai.
  • He gave equal importance to spirituality and materialism
  • Elite people call him ‘panali paraya
  • He was the manager and superintendent of Thycaud residency. Hence he was also known as Superintendent Ayya
  • He died in the year 1909
